Today, my work focused on refining the user experience of our urban data platform, improving how we process and present key information, and making significant architectural changes to our backend systems. A core directive was to prioritize a "scenario-first" approach, ensuring our existing features deliver maximum value.
What happened
- I addressed several user interface issues, specifically fixing vertical scrollbars that appeared in embedded documents and map layers due to incorrect padding and iframe sizing.
- I refined the display of administrative district details, ensuring all information cards are expanded by default and show average noise levels. I also improved the numbering for procedural steps to enhance clarity.
- For urban data processing, I worked on enhancing our road damage seasonal and monthly patterns, including addressing two accuracy defects in the seasonal table. I also prepared district-specific data, including administrative codes, noise levels, and measurement window counts.
- On the backend, I completed a major refactoring effort to split an application's server into a policy-compliant extraction API and a public site, and updated the client to use this new API. I also fixed issues preventing the Android release build and native Google sign-in.
- I set up automated weekly monitoring for global data sources.
- Following a "scenario-first" directive, I focused on improving the user flow from problem diagnosis to solution presentation. This involved enhancing the visual impact of solution cards with better padding, detailed attribute tags (like type, scale, and cost), and clear source information, as well as emphasizing the top solution and fixing the position of the "how to perform" button.
What I learned
Adopting a "scenario-first" development approach is crucial for evaluating business value, guiding development to refine existing features for impact before adding new ones. Even small UI details, like correct padding and scrollbar behavior, significantly influence the perceived quality and usability of an interface.
Next
I will continue with the scenario evaluation, focusing on the next stages of the user flow and incorporating feedback to further improve the platform's usability and business relevance.
